Spout
Bank lies 15 miles North east of Carlisle in Cumbria,
rising to approximately 400 feet above sea level
and extending to over 800 acres.
Our herd of Galloway cows run with the Whitebred Shorthorn
Stock Bull Hole
of Lyne Tommy HB No. 11701 and a Row bull. We calve half
the herd in the Spring with the remainder in the Autumn.
The
Blue Grey heifer calves are sold annually at Newcastleton
Auction Mart. In October 2004 we topped at £670
with the previous year close behind at £660.
Blue-grey steers are finished on the farm and sold
to local butchers, or to a marketing scheme where we
receive a premium. Galloway and Blue Grey steers
are also purchased to finish on the farm.
Galloway heifers with Blue-grey calves at foot are sold at the Spring and Autumn
Sales at Carlisle.
The farm also carries a herd of Angus and Limousin cross cows which are put
to the Charolais bull, and a flock of 1450 Swaledale ewes which are crossed
with the Bluefaced Leicester to produce the Greyfaced (Mule) lamb. The ewe
lambs are sold at Carlisle in September.
