BURNEDGE WHITEBRED SHORTHORN HERD
The Burnedge herd of Whitebred Shorthorns was founded in
1974 by the purchase of a bull and three heifers at Carlisle.
The
bull
Tanlawhill
Majestic from the herd of Lord Tanlaw, and the heifers from
the Grange herd of Peter Gordon.
My reasons for buying Whitebred Shorthorns was that I had
visited the Newcastleton Suckled Calf sale and noted that
the Blue Greys were making almost twice the price of the
pure Galloways.
We regularly sell both Whitebred bulls and females throughout
the UK to Galloway breeders, Highland breeders and Dairy
Farmers.
I have found the Whitebred Shorthorns to be very calm to
work with and very good milkers, they have adapted to our
farm
so well that we now run a herd of 40+ Whitebred Shorthorn
Cattle together with Galloways and Blue Greys.
We out winter all our cattle on a 180 acre grass hill rising to 1200 feet supplemented
only by silage and mineral blocks on our 265 acre farm
near Oldham.
Private sales of Whitebred Shorthorn Bulls, Galloway
Bulls and Blue Grey Heifers arranged. |
